Meet The Author

Michael C. White

Michael C. White is the author of eight novels and a collection of short stories, known for his emotionally rich storytelling and his exploration of moral choice, history, and the human cost of violence. His forthcoming novel, Skunktown (Regal House, Summer 2027), follows a young boy in 1968 as he confronts the racism and social unrest surrounding him—a story that continues White’s lifelong interest in the intersection of personal conscience and American history.

White’s recent novel Resting Places was runner-up for the 2024 Indie Authors Project Award for Best General Fiction and was praised by Foreword Reviews as “a beautiful depiction of grace in the midst of grief, a modern odyssey across America populated with memorable characters.”

His earlier novels have earned widespread critical acclaim and national recognition. A Brother’s Blood was a New York Times Book Review Notable Book and a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. A Dream of Wolves received starred reviews from both Publishers Weekly and Booklist. The Garden of Martyrs, a finalist for the Connecticut Book Award, was adapted into an opera of the same name. Beautiful Assassin won the Connecticut Book Award for Fiction. His debut novel, Soul Catcher, was a Booksense and Historical Novels Review Editor’s Selection.

His fiction has appeared in more than fifty national magazines and journals, earning honors that include the Advocate Newspapers Fiction Award, nominations for the National Magazine Award and the Pushcart Prize, and numerous fellowships and literary distinctions.

In addition to his work as a novelist, White was the founding editor of the annual fiction anthology American Fiction and of Dogwood. He also founded and directed Fairfield University’s low-residency MFA Program in Creative Writing, where he mentored emerging writers for many years.

—EDITORS CHOICE, HISTORICAL NOVELS REVIEW

Michael White’s characters are so well drawn that you find yourself wondering, on a rainy afternoon a year after you’ve finished reading the book, what they’re up to now.
